Children and Custody

You Have One Chance to Get It Right

They are your children, they can be so happy or you can make them so sad!

Divorce and custody are not words for them, but you will make them share these words with you.

How will you choose an attorney?  Will you choose your next door neighbor?  How about that person who's son is in your child's class?  Should you go to the big firm downtown (KA-CHING!  $$$$)  or should you stay with a small office in the suburbs (Ding - Ding - Ding  $$)?  Maybe you can use that 1-800 number in the phone book.

They are all professionals and they are all competent.  (Okay, some aren't, but only a few.)  The decision is one of the most important you will make in your life and your children's.  Don't you need some guidance before you choose?

Once you decide on an attorney the work has only just begun.  What is the right form of custody for your children?  Your attorney doesn't know you very well and doesn't know the soon to be ex spouse at all.  Your attorney will do his/her very best to educate you, at KA-CHING per hour.  Can you afford this education?  You will get competent legal advice, but will it be the best advice?  Do you want anything less?

You need to be educated before you choose an attorney and you need to know what to ask of your attorney after making the choice.  You need expert advice from people who know about families and the law, not just the law.  Dr Barry Bricklin and Dr. Gail Elliot have over 35 years of combined experience in these areas.  They have put their experiences into separate books aimed at mothers, fathers and grandparents.  Each book is updated annually so you always get the most recent information and guidance.
